Interview: Christopher Ward London, British Watchmaker and Entrepreneur

This is another interview I conducted last year partly because I love watches (I had to buy one since it is my name) but also because I found it incredible that a former retailer decided to start his own company with a few friends/colleagues producing mechanical watches which is no small feat!  I first encountered Chris’ watches on the timepiece enthusiasts’ site, www.timezone.com and was immediately enamored with the design of his watches as well as amused with the idea of having my name on one of my own timepieces.  Later, when I started this site, I contacted Chris to ask if he would do an interview about his journey starting the company.  He, like many other truly successful entrepreneurs was more than happy to take some time to speak with me about how Christopher Ward, London got started and its subsequent success.

In the interview we cover what inspired him and his friends to start the company (the answer was surprising), obstacles they encountered as well as fortuitous connections that were key to getting the company off the ground, marketing strategies, horological influences, (I know, I couldn’t help myself :) ) and passions.  It was a lot of fun conducting the interview and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did doing it!  Below are some pictures of his watches including my personal watch…click on his logo to visit his site!
